Work Permits

We specialize in all types of Canadian work permits and invite you to call us for a personalized consultation to discuss your specific situation.

Securing proper work authorization is absolutely essential, as working without it can severely jeopardize future Canadian immigration applications. Canada’s robust labor laws are designed to protect workers, ensuring safe working conditions, employer compliance with regulations, and competitive wages as mandated by law.

Canada offers a diverse range of over 100 work permit options for foreign nationals, with some programs even allowing family members, such as spouses, to accompany the primary worker on a temporary basis. Navigating these options can be complex, but we can help you find the right fit.

Broadly, Canadian work permits fall into two categories:

  • Temporary Foreign Worker Program: These permits require a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) from Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). An LMIA demonstrates that hiring a foreign worker will not negatively impact the Canadian labor market. This process involves the employer advertising the position and proving that no qualified Canadian citizen or permanent resident is available to fill it.

  • International Mobility Program: These permits are exempt from the LMIA requirement. They cover a variety of situations where Canada has agreements or arrangements with other countries, or where the work benefits Canada’s economic or cultural interests. Examples include certain skilled professionals, business visitors, and individuals working under free trade agreements.

Beyond these two main categories, several other avenues exist for working in Canada:

  • Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP): This permit is available to graduates of eligible Canadian post-secondary institutions, allowing them to gain valuable Canadian work experience after completing their studies.

  • Other Work Permit Categories: Within the two main programs, numerous specific categories exist, each with its own eligibility criteria. These could be based on occupation, skill level, or specific agreements. Contact us for detailed information.

  • CUSMA (formerly NAFTA): The Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement facilitates the temporary entry of certain business professionals between the three countries.

  • Business Investors: Individuals who invest in Canadian businesses may be eligible for work permits under specific investment programs.
