Canadian Super Visa Checklist

The Canadian Super Visa allows parents/grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years per visit.

If you meet the requirements below and have the listed documents, you’re ready to apply.

Sponsor (Host) Requirements

  • Relationship: Must be the child or grandchild of the applicant.
  • Status in Canada: Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered Indian.
  • Age: At least 18 years old and lives in Canada.
  • Income: Meets or exceeds minimum necessary income based on family size (may include co-signer’s income).
    • Family Size Calculation: Include:
      • Host
      • Host’s spouse (including separated spouse) or common-law partner.
      • Dependent children of the host and their spouse/common-law partner (regardless of custody/support arrangements).
      • Super visa applicant(s) applying now (e.g., parent/grandparent, their spouse).
      • Previously approved super visa holders (from another valid invitation letter signed by host or co-signer).
      • Previously sponsored individuals (by host or co-signer) with an active undertaking.
    • Minimum Necessary Income (as of June 3, 2024):
      • 1 person: $29,380
      • 2 people: $36,576
      • 3 people: $44,966
      • 4 people: $54,594
      • 5 people: $61,920
      • 6 people: $69,834
      • 7 people: $77,750
      • Each additional person: +$7,916

Co-Signer Requirements

  • Relationship: Must be the spouse or common-law partner of the host.
  • Status in Canada: Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Role: Co-signs the invitation letter to support the financial commitment.
  • Income Contribution: Income may contribute to meeting the minimum necessary income based on family size (calculated as above).

Applicant Requirements

  • Location: Must be outside Canada when applying.
  • Admissibility: Allowed to enter Canada (no criminal/immigration issues).
  • Medical Exam: Complete an immigration medical exam.
  • Health Insurance:
    • From a Canadian or OSFI-authorized foreign insurer (on OSFI’s list, issued in Canada).
    • Valid for 1 year, paid (no quotes), covers health care/hospitalization/repatriation, minimum $100,000.
  • Intent: Prove intent to leave Canada at the end of the visit (ties to home country, purpose of visit, financial stability).
  • No Dependants: Dependants cannot be included.

Required Documents

  • Host’s Status Proof: Copy of Canadian citizenship document, permanent resident document, or Secure/Certificate of Indian Status.
  • Co-Signer’s Status Proof: Copy of Canadian citizenship document (e.g., passport) or permanent resident document (e.g., PR card).
  • Invitation Letter: Signed by the host and co-signer (if applicable), promising financial support, listing family members (names and dates of birth) included in the family size calculation, along with income proof such as a recent Notice of Assessment issued by CRA, employment proof, proof of savings in a savings account issued by a financial institution, and proof of status in Canada.
  • Income Proof: Documents showing host’s (and co-signer’s, if applicable) income meets minimum necessary income for family size (e.g., tax assessments, pay stubs).
  • Applicant’s Medical Exam: Proof of completed immigration medical exam.
  • Health Insurance Proof: Policy document showing 1-year validity, $100,000 coverage, paid status, from eligible insurer.
  • Proof of Ties/Intent: Documents showing home country ties (e.g., property, job), visit purpose, and financial situation.
  • Passport: Copy of applicant’s valid passport.
  • Temporary Resident Visa Photos: Provide two identical, unaltered photos (35 mm x 45 mm) taken within 6 months, printed on quality photographic paper, showing a full front view of the head (31–36 mm from chin to crown) against a plain white/light background, with a neutral expression, mouth closed, and clear eyes (non-tinted glasses allowed, no sunglasses); head coverings permitted only for religious reasons if facial features remain visible.
  • eTA (if visa-exempt): Proof of electronic travel authorization for air travel (linked to passport).

Canadian Visitor Record Eligibility and Document Checklist

The Canadian Visitor Record allows you to extend your stay in Canada or change your temporary resident category.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Purpose: You must want to:
    • Extend your stay in Canada as:
      • A visitor.
    • Change your status from:
      • Study permit holder to visitor.

    • Current Status: Must have a valid temporary resident status (visitor, student, or worker) that has not yet expired.
    • Application Timing: Recommended to Apply at least 30 days before your current status expires, as indicated on:
      • Passport stamp (Date entered in Canada, not visitor visa date).
      • Study permit or work permit.
      • Existing visitor record.
      • If no stamp, 6 months from entry date.
    • Entry Document: Eligible regardless of entry method (visitor visa, eTA, or other document).

Required Documents

  • Proof of Current Status: Scanned copy of:
    • Passport Front and Back page, including stamp pages, stamp showing most recent entry to Canada.
    • Current study permit, work permit, or visitor record as applicable.
  • Identification: Scanned copy of valid passport or government-issued photo ID.
  • Evidence for Extension/Change: Scanned documents supporting your need to extend stay or change status, such as:
    • Letter explaining reasons for extension or status change.
    • Proof of financial support (e.g., bank statements).

PGWP Application

Canadian Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Eligibility and Document Checklist

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows international students who graduated from eligible Canadian institutions to work in Canada for up to 3 years. Review the eligibility criteria and document requirements below to confirm you qualify and have what you need to apply instantly. Eligibility Requirements

  • Study Permit: Your Study permit is valid and you completed your studies within last 90 days.

Note:- For PGWP or restoration application (as applicable) Must have been valid at some point within 180 days after receiving final marks.

  • Study Program:
    • Completed at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
    • At least 8 months long.
    • Led to a degree, diploma, or certificate.
    • Your program meets the eligible CIP code description (e.g., program description, certificate).
  • Full-Time Status: Maintained full-time status in Canada each semester (except final semester, which can be part-time).
  • Eligible Institutions:
    • Public post-secondary school (e.g., college, trade/technical school, university, CEGEP in Quebec).
    • Private post-secondary school in Quebec operating under public school rules.
    • Private secondary/post-secondary school in Quebec with 900+ hour programs leading to a diplôme d’études professionnelles (DEP) or attestation de spécialisation professionnelle (ASP).
    • Canadian private school authorized to award degrees (e.g., Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate) in a provincially approved degree program.
  • Language Proficiency (for applications on/after November 1, 2024):
  • Program-Specific Requirements:  Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral Degree:
    • Language: Minimum CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 areas (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
    • Field of Study (if PGWP applied before Nov 1, 2024): No requirement.
  • Other University Programs:
    • Language: Minimum CLB 7 (English) or NCLC 7 (French) in all 4 areas.
    • Field of Study:
      • If study permit applied on/after Nov 1, 2024: Must graduate in an eligible field (CIP code-based).
      • If study permit applied before Nov 1, 2024: No field requirement.
  • College, Polytechnic, or Non-University Programs:
    • Language: Minimum CLB 5 (English) or NCLC 5 (French) in all 4 areas.
    • Field of Study:
      • If study permit applied on/after Nov 1, 2024: Must graduate in an eligible field (CIP code-based).
      • If study permit applied before Nov 1, 2024: No field requirement.
  • Flight School Graduates:
    • Must have:
      • Completed a flight training course at a DLI training centre and hold a Canadian commercial pilot’s license, OR
      • Obtained or pursuing an instructor’s rating with a job offer as a flight instructor from a DLI flight training centre.
    • Language: Exempt.
    • Field of Study: Exempt.
  • Location-Based Requirements:
  • In Canada: Eligible if living in Canada and meeting all other criteria. If study permit expires before marks, apply for a visitor record or leave Canada to apply.
  • Outside Canada: Eligible if meeting distance learning requirements or if you completed your program in Canada and apply from abroad.
  • Ineligibility: You do not qualify if you:
    • Previously received a PGWP.
    • Had a study permit expire more than 180 days before applying.
    • Studied English/French as a second language or took general interest/self-improvement courses.
    • Participated in Global Affairs Canada-funded programs (e.g., Government of Canada Awards, Canada-Chile Scholarship, Canada-China Scholars, OAS Fellowships).
    • Completed most of your program by distance learning (online, e-learning, correspondence).
    • Studied at a non-Canadian institution in Canada or a non-PGWP-eligible DLI.
  • Timing: This service package is designed for those who have a valid study permit and have completed their studies within the last 90 days. It is possible to apply within 180 days of receiving program completion confirmation (e.g., transcript, letter, or notice), but that service is not included in this package.   • Passport: Must be valid beyond the requested PGWP duration (8 months to 3 years, based on program length).

Required Documents

  • Proof of Study Permit: Scanned copy of your current or recently valid study permit.
  • Passport: Scanned copies of passport pages showing:
    • Passport number, issue/expiry dates, name, date of birth.
    • Most recent Canadian entry stamp.
    • Any marked pages.
  • Proof of Program Completion: Scanned copy of one of:
    • Final transcript.
    • Letter from your institution confirming completion.
    • Formal notice of graduation.
    • Note: For multiple programs, include the main program’s document and others as additional documents.
  • Proof of Eligible Field of Study (if study permit applied on/after Nov 1, 2024, for university/college programs): Scanned evidence that your program meets the eligible CIP code description (e.g., program description, certificate).
  • Proof of Language Proficiency (for applications on/after November 1, 2024, unless flight school graduate):
    • Scanned in-person test results (less than 2 years old) from CELPIP-General, IELTS General Training, PTE Core (English), TEF Canada, or TCF Canada (French), meeting CLB/NCLC levels as listed in the eligibility section above.
    • If disabled and unable to complete all sections: Scanned results from IRCC’s language averaging tool and explanation document.
  • Medical Exam (if applicable): Scanned proof of completed medical exam if working in:
    • Designated occupations (e.g., health services, work with children).
    • Agricultural work and you lived/visited a designated country for 6+ months in the past year.
  • Flight School Proof (if applicable): Scanned copy of Canadian commercial pilot’s license or job offer as a flight instructor from a DLI flight training centre.

Canadian Permanent Resident Card Eligibility and Document Checklist

The Permanent Resident (PR) Card proves your status as a permanent resident of Canada and facilitates travel.     • Official determination of failing residency obligations.
  • Residency Obligation: Must have lived in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) within the last 5 years.
    • Days do not need to be continuous.
    • Sometime outside Canada may count (e.g., accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse/common-law partner).
  • Ineligibility: You do not qualify if you:
    • Are not a permanent resident.
    • Are outside Canada when applying.
    • Have lost PR status (e.g., via removal order, citizenship, or official residency failure).

Required Documents

  • Proof of PR Status: Scanned copy of:
    • Current PR card (both sides, if applicable).
    • Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence.
  • Proof of Identity: Scanned copy of passport or government-issued photo ID (Driving License and Health Card).
  • Passport-Style Photos: Scanned copy or a Digital Copy of unaltered photos meeting IRCC specifications:
    • Size: 50 mm wide x 70 mm high (2 inches x 2¾ inches); face height 31 mm to 36 mm (1¼ to 1⁷⁄₁₆ inches) from chin to crown.
    • Taken by a commercial photographer, in color or black and white, clear, sharp, in focus.
    • Neutral expression (eyes open, mouth closed, no smiling), uniform lighting, no shadows/glare.
    • Straight-on, face and shoulders centered, plain white background, natural skin tones.
    • Taken within the last 12 months, professionally printed on high-quality photographic paper.
    • Back of one photo (or separate document for digital photos) includes: subject’s name, date of birth, photography studio name/address, date taken (handwritten or stamped, no stick-on labels).
    • Digital photos: JPEG/PNG, 715×1000 to 2000×2800 pixels, ≤4 MB, not scanned from paper photos.
    • Special cases:
      • Children: Show head and shoulders only, no hands; newborns may be in a car seat with a white blanket behind head, minor expression variations allowed.
      • Medical: Wheelchair users need a white blanket behind head; headwear/nasal cannula allowed if medically required (include signed explanation or doctor’s letter).
      • Unacceptable: Red-eye, tinted glasses, hats (unless for religious/medical reasons), shadows, altered photos, smiling, or non-compliant formats.
    • Proof of Residency: Scanned documents proving 730+ days in Canada in the last 5 years (e.g., lease agreements, utility bills, tax records).
    • Proof of Absence (if applicable): Scanned documents supporting absences over 3 years in the last 5 years (e.g., proof of accompanying a Canadian citizen spouse/common-law partner).
    • Name Change Documents (if applicable): Scanned copies of IRM 0002, IRM 0004, or IRM 0005 forms.
    • Police Certificates (if applicable): Scanned certificates for you and non-citizen/PR family members (18+) who lived in another country for 6+ months.
    • Payment Proof: Scanned receipt for the PR card application fee (as specified on the IRCC website).
